Accessibility
This website should be usable by everyone in Cockrell Hill, including people who use assistive technology.
Our goal
The site is designed and built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 (external site) at Level AA. This is a target, not a certification: the site has not been formally audited, and we can't promise every page is free of problems.
Testing so far
Most recent testing: October 3, 2026.
- Automated scans of every page with axe-core (WCAG 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2 A and AA rules) in Chromium.
- Keyboard-only checks of navigation, the mobile menu, skip link, accordions, and focus visibility.
- Layout checks at 320, 375, 768, 1280, and 1536 pixels wide, including a check for horizontal scrolling at 320 pixels.
- Color contrast checks of the site's color palette.
Not yet tested
- Testing with screen readers (such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack).
- Review by people with disabilities.
Known limitations
- The membership application and the Fire Marshal's Office forms are tagged, fillable PDFs hosted on this website, and have had an accessibility review. Some parts are designed to be printed and signed, including pages that must be notarized or signed by a physician. The key steps of the membership application are summarized in HTML on the Join CHFD page, and alternative formats are available on request.
- Some links lead to websites run by other organizations, which have their own accessibility practices.
